MACHINE KNITTING CLASS

 I tried to understand the basics, but struggled to start the project. After spending one hour with trials and failure just to cast on, I finally nailed it, and could get started. And from the, it went ok until binding off...I ended up with transferring the stitches to a long circular needle, bringing them home and knit end and beginning together to form a wide cowl.

I have started to use a knitting machine at Svithun Husflidslag. With punchcard. So here is the first scarf I made after having attended a course there.

Yellow Owl

We had the pleasuer of spending a weekend with our little grand daughter and my mother in law this fall. We took my mother in law to a factory outlet with yarn. The little granddaughter being very used to grandma knitting for her, went in to the shop and looked around. She found Yellow yarn. "Yellow" she sad very enthusiastic. And then she started to look around the yarn store. "No OWL?" And I remembered that I had her with me when we went to another shop where there were several knitten owls. We fount an owl patter. Bought the yarn. And now she has a yellow owl sweather.

Penguin or owl?

Long time ago, when Yr was to small to enjoy a penguin outfir, I went to Garnkilden and bought the yarn and recipe to make this outfit.

The outfit comes in four parets. A hooded suit, a hat, socks and mittens.
So when put on the kid- they are suppoised to look like a little penguin toddling around.

My little granddaughter was thrilled over the hat (the rest did not get any attention).
"Oggla" (Owl) she exclaimed, put the hat on backwards and went for her shoes.

Easy and fun knitting project.

For one of my nieces

There is a real babyboom going on in the family these days. Nephews and nieces are having babies within a short interwall.

So for one of them, having a girl- I made this little sweather in thin wool from Duo.

I am still trying to get on friendly terms with the knitting machine- and I was able to knit this very basic sweather on it without getting to frustrated.

But- finding buttons to match the colours- well just forget it and find several different ones instead.

Wristwarmers - Princess on the pea

Spending some time in Silkeborg at my cottage with a friend, can be dangerous if not planning to do some yarnshopping. I was just going to show Alexandra some of the knittingshops in Silkeborg. Gadestrik is a small but very nice knitting shop in the centre of Silkeborg.
I ended up buying a kit for wristwarmers. From "Kastaniestrik". Never knew I was going to need that.
But when I saw the colours and the pattern- I was sold.

 I knitted a pair for me. Even though I rarely use purple colours.

And them my lovely granddaughter got a pair of her own. That is simply just what a small toddler need :-)

Pants and socks, as well as fixing the shirt

 I had some "curling" issues with the T-shirt. I startet over again, this time with a number of thinner knitting needles, and rib knitting. No more curling-upwards. All I need is small brown buttons in the right brown colour.

Thin wool is nice even in the summer. May be- specifically in the Norwegian summer. So I made a simply straight up and down pair for the size 0-3 months. All I need is elastic band for the waist.

Socks for the coming little boy- to match the rest of the outfit. I chose to knit it in rib, so there is a chance that the socks will stay on to busy baby feet.

T-shirt for a very small man

My Nephew is expecting a son - this summer.
I wanted to knit a sweater for the baby- but the lower part curled in a not so nice way.

Theories: Try again with thinner knitting needles and knit the blue edge again

Knit the blue edge again with same needles as the rest- decrease number of stitches a bit

or

Try again and make the edge a few rows longer

The Brown parts are knitted on a knitting machine. Back, front, two sleeves. Sewn together.

Then the blue edges are added and knitted by hand.

When the curly issue is fixed- small brown buttons will be added

Cranky pants, Monsterbukser

Our darling granddaughter Yr is starting kindergarten. She is 1 year old, and still so tiny, but ohh so ready to play with the other kids. I wanted to make her some nice warm pants in wool. Gender neutral, fun colours. Luckily I had heaps of yarn of same quality, Silja. It is a sock yarn, meant to stand some wear and tear, and for someone still crawling really fast of the floor, I think this is a good quality wool yarn. And it can be machine washed. As you can see, there are room for the little one to play in these pants.

I have just staerted to use my knitting machine, and these are made on it. Stitched theets and eyes on afterwards. The trick to use leftover yarn is to wind it up in similar sized balls, so both legs can be identically (unless you want it more random).

wrist warmers - another left-over yarn project

I had one ball of soft yarn left over from knitting a hat. I decided to experiment a bit with tuck stitches. And I made a pair of wristwarmers, knitting the thumb part on by hand afterwards. The hard part was to decide which side was reverse....

Knitted tubular scarf thing- or Buff

I have one of my sisters living in the realy cold part of winter Norway. She has her birthday in December. I had this really warm kauni yarn available, and decided to knit her a warm buff, long neck- whatever.

I used the knitting machine, and tuck-stiches, and knitted the two ends together.

 

I also chose to make it wide enough to cover ear and nose if really cold.

Rock mittens for Sofie

Sofie is growing so fast....and her hands are also growing. Longer finger = new mittens.
She is into music, rock mostly on the heavy side- so I found the pattern from Jorid Lindvik. Let's Rock to be a worthwhile knitting project.

Sofie was happy when she got them- but the size must be on the small side, they were actually barely fitting. I guess I have to make another one in slightly ticker yarn. I used Rauma Finull.

Mittens for YR

Tiny Yr is starting Kindergarten in Jauary, and then she needs mittens for her small hands. Grandma is knitting.

I made one set with Hugin and Munin, PT yarn, wool from Rauma. For the most part, I followed the pattern in Annemor Sundbø's book "Norske votter og Vanter", I ended them a bit earlier so they better fit very small hands.

 

The I made one pair of mittens from Nøstebarn. Fine Alpaccawool.

Boyfriend hat

For Marte's boyfriend I made a green hat. Same soft wool as Marte's hat. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK. Supersoft and 100% wool. I tried to make it a bit masculin - as well as reversible.
I had to borrow the son-in-law Nelson, to make sure the hat fitted a mans head. ready to go along with the rest of the Christmas gift.

Yr's little "Orange is the new black" or "Easy to find" sweather

I went on the big dangerous Internet and ordered yarn for machine knitting. Hillesvåg.  The colours were so nice on my screen. The the parcel arrived. Ohhhh is that this orange colour? Checking the code- yes :-( There were no mistake- the screen lied)

Ok Thinking- thinking- Enough yarn for a little sweather. A Carrot coloured sweather...how dark is YR really? Can she wear an ORANGE- screaming orange sweather without looking really pale?

I will try.
Or I can send it to some poor kids in a cold country.

Now it is finnished. Or almost. Lacking buttons. May be it needs some more brown stripes to make it more retro and less carrot?

At least I became friend with my knitting machine.

Hat with bubbles

 It seems like they have all gone "bubbly" - There are bubbles on hats, sweathers and blankets. After a while it becomes contagious. I just had to make a bubble-hat. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK. Supersoft and 100% wool.
Christmas gift for someone- so no name mentioned.
