Pink mittens

mittens, pink, Yr, Sisu, Two at the same time, magic loop

Planning to start communicating very short.

I made these to keep practising the magic loop, and knitting two at the same time. Starting form the top of the mittens.

I added rather long cuffs so the little one should not get cold when playing outside.
Good chance to practice some techniques.

I saw this nice tittle top at Geilsk web shop, and I just had to wait til my granddaughter was big enough to knit it to her.

Cotton/wool blend and the stitches gave it a light, soft fabric.
The shaping of this garment was perfect for the young lady.
And it was pink.
We really like Pink for the time being.
Not Yellow anymore.
The stitches - in English "Extended Open-Work Stitch"

Non-stop - shirt

When Sofie and I left for Lanzarote for our "Spring vacation", I brought with me thin knitting needles, and two skeins of Filcolana Arwetta classic.
And a recipe that reminded of Baby in rib, but an easier design for shoulders.

So an undershirt/T-short- short sleeved blouse for Yr.

..and the YR picked buttons....

Titt-tei lue - Peek-a-boo-hatt

Yr and I where flipping through the book: "Strikkesidas favoritter" and she found a picture ofthe peek-a-boo hats. And she wanted a pink one.
We went to the yarn store and she picked the colour she wanted.

Red dress for Yr

I was planning to knit a dress to Yr from Nøstebarn's pattern. But I was not a fan of the open back solution to an active little girl.
I wanted to use some of the New Zealand fine merino wool bought in November - StrikkehelgStavanger.
And I wanted to force myself to use the knitting machine - and calculate the size/and rewrite the pattern for my own benefit.

1) The dress curled! Where I did not want it to curl. And yes, it kept curling after wash ;-(
SO- I picked up the stiches at the bottom and knitted 5 cm in a simple hole pattern. No more curling.

2) The dress did not have pockets! Grandma's little friend told me that she needed pocket. One pockets added.

 3) Chose to have the garter stich side facing outwards.

Yellow Owl

We had the pleasuer of spending a weekend with our little grand daughter and my mother in law this fall. We took my mother in law to a factory outlet with yarn. The little granddaughter being very used to grandma knitting for her, went in to the shop and looked around. She found Yellow yarn. "Yellow" she sad very enthusiastic. And then she started to look around the yarn store. "No OWL?" And I remembered that I had her with me when we went to another shop where there were several knitten owls. We fount an owl patter. Bought the yarn. And now she has a yellow owl sweather.

Knitted in Ulrika from Svarta fåret.

Knitting two mittens at the same time

After having learned to knit two socks at the same time, on circular needles it was tempting to try the same with mittens.  After socks size 2 years there were more of the Arwetta Classic yarn in bright yellow.

Starting with 16 stitches on top, increasing to 40.
then knitting until the length of the mitten above the thumb.

Knitting two at the same time: will never make two right mittens again,

Left over yarn - hønsestrikk

I had several small ball of leftover yarns in Geilsk tweed form different projects.
So I decided to make a sweather for Yr for colder days in fall and winter.
I know she loved our cat, and their dog- so I found patterns reminding of dogs, and a good pattern for cat.

The sweather is knitted from the top and down. I made the sleeves extra long with a small edge to make them easier to fold up, and stay up.

Well she tried it on, and it is a bit big- but not enormous.

And the fun part...she decided the the sheep looked like their furry dog.

Knitted jacket for Yr

This summer har been really warm, but in the beginning of the summer I believed there would be some chilly evenings where the little one could benefit from a jacket. So I bought some Geilsk hemp and wool yarn and made her a jacket.

Angry bird hat for Yr

It is summer temperatures here now, and we have had one week of 20+ degrees :-)
This means that woolen hats are to warm to wear in preschool and kindergarten. But even if it is summer, we know that temperatures will drop to 12 degrees and some days we will have strong winds. So a summerhat for the little ones are a nice thing to have.
First I knitted a traditional little Helmet kind of hat.
Debbie Bliss Wool/cotton mix.
Pattern from Hjertegarn

But it was oh so boring.

So I was wondering to turn it into an owl hat, and made a beak. Made some eyes.
But it still was not to my liking.

I added eyebrows. So now it is a kind of Angry Bird hat.

I hope it fits the young lady's head and that she likes it.

Yr's "Fister løgsovs"

I made Yr a mustard colored Fister Løgsovs sweater some time ago. Size 2 years, so it will fit her at the end of fall, I guess.
Geilsk  tweed yarn, and Geilsk Pattern.
Only thing that needed to be done after knitting, was attaching the sleeves to the rest. Little sewing, is what I like.

Sweater for Yr

After the cranky pants, I wanted to knit a sweater for the little darling. I used red Silja Yarn from Sparkjøp. This time i knitted the front, the back and the arms as seperate parts on the knitting machine- until chest-high. Then I joined them all on a circular needle and knittet back and forth across all four parts, decresing every 7th stitch after 10 rows, then dereasing every 6th stich etc- until every second stitch.

At the same time I splitt the front in 2, having 10 stitches passed the middle on the needle, picking up stiches underneath to make an easy pull on and off opening.

After having knitted the top, I was going to sew it together from wrist to armpit and down the side- I noticed that the little girl had grown, and that the sweather was long enough, but would be very "slim", so I picked up stitches all the way, and knitted rib back and fort and joined together with the stiches as I went along.

The result was ok.

Cranky pants, Monsterbukser

Our darling granddaughter Yr is starting kindergarten. She is 1 year old, and still so tiny, but ohh so ready to play with the other kids. I wanted to make her some nice warm pants in wool. Gender neutral, fun colours. Luckily I had heaps of yarn of same quality, Silja. It is a sock yarn, meant to stand some wear and tear, and for someone still crawling really fast of the floor, I think this is a good quality wool yarn. And it can be machine washed. As you can see, there are room for the little one to play in these pants.
I have just staerted to use my knitting machine, and these are made on it. Stitched theets and eyes on afterwards. The trick to use leftover yarn is to wind it up in similar sized balls, so both legs can be identically (unless you want it more random).

Mittens for YR

Tiny Yr is starting Kindergarten in Jauary, and then she needs mittens for her small hands. Grandma is knitting.

I made one set with Hugin and Munin, PT yarn, wool from Rauma. For the most part, I followed the pattern in Annemor Sundbø's book "Norske votter og Vanter", I ended them a bit earlier so they better fit very small hands.

The I made one pair of mittens from Nøstebarn. Fine Alpaccawool.

Yr's little "Orange is the new black" or "Easy to find" sweather

I went on the big dangerous Internet and ordered yarn for machine knitting. Hillesvåg.  The colours were so nice on my screen. The the parcel arrived. Ohhhh is that this orange colour? Checking the code- yes :-( There were no mistake- the screen lied)

Ok Thinking- thinking- Enough yarn for a little sweather. A Carrot coloured sweather...how dark is YR really? Can she wear an ORANGE- screaming orange sweather without looking really pale?

I will try.
Or I can send it to some poor kids in a cold country.

Now it is finnished. Or almost. Lacking buttons. May be it needs some more brown stripes to make it more retro and less carrot?

At least I became friend with my knitting machine.

Another woollen hat for Yr

After a jacket project (still waiting for buttons) I had som leftover yarn.
What better to do than make a tiny hat for Yr- I knitted size 9-12 month since she is not that big for her age.

Knitted jacket for YR

Cotton jacket for little Yr.
After knitting a dress to Yr in lighter shade of purple, I decided to knit a darker jacket with the same pattern, form the same book. "Babystrik på pinde 3"- model Bella.

Easy and fun project.

The recipient - Yr

Here is my darling grand daughter in a creation from grandmother. This version has kept the original length of the sleeves, but added some stitches in front for buttons and buttonholes.
