Machine knitting socks

At Svithun husflidslag I have access to knitting machine. But I havent completely gotten comfortable using them, I still prefer the slower hand knitting process.

But - I was able to make a pair of socks in thin sock wool from Regia to my oldest daughter.

And them wanting to make a pair of male socks...I made them too big. Now looking for the male in the family with really big feet. Found him- so these will be added to his birthday gift. Sisu form Sandnes.

And for a friend of mine who don't knit for her birthday (And that was in January...) I have been neglecting this completely.

Socks on knitting machine

I have often wondered. How do you make socks on a flat bed knitting machine? The heel? The toe?

The rib?

I found a description on line, and here i tried it. Not perfect, but ok.

A few alterations I will try on the next pair.

I have just returned from a knitting festival at Bornholm.

Together with some friends I attended a workshop with Lene Randorff - knitting two socks at the same time.

Both new to me, but a very cool way to knit socks.

First we knitted some very small socks so we would make it to the heel before the workshop was over.

Then we were given the advice to not wait to long to use the technique again. So I bought some Arwetta classic and knitted a pair of socks size 2 years. In brigth yellow to someone who loves yellow.

Same as my pink feminine socks- just with a yellow woollen yarn with some glitter.

A perfect gift for my colour loving daugther.

My feminine wintersocks

 When I was in London I had to go by I Knit London. I found some pink sock yarn i really liked. So here is my feminine wintersocks. Nice and warm. Knitted like the spring socks, but with three rows of flowers on top.

 

 

 

 

Socks - for springtime

I went to London for a Conference with my work. Great little project for travelling, socks. Just before travelling I had visited a local knitting workshop with Arne and Carlos- and I had to buy some lovely sock yarn from a local small yarn shop "God som Ull", Filcolana Arwetta.

 

I decided that with these colours- it needed to be socks for me to use when spring comes.

After knittet a pair of socks for me- there were more yarn available- so I knittet a pair of sock siz 1 year- for my granddaughter.

 

I really enjoyen stating the socks with small flowers instead of the traditional rib.



Socks for my daughters

Sandnes has this nice warm alpacca wool strengthened so it is feasable for socks. The pattern is from Drops Design Christmas Calendar.

So three almost identical pair of these.

Hat and socks from Nøstebarn,

I remember when Sofie was little - sometimes when she could not sleep a hat helped. I do not know why - It could be the air conditioning (we lived in Texas back then).

But I have knitted another thin little hat in wool/silk blend from Duo - and followed a recipe from Nøstebarn on rib hat for babies.

Sofie wants some new thick woolen socks!

We were out shopping for some new jeans for Sofie. She has really grown. On our way around the shopping center she found some yarn she liked, and asked me if I could knit her some new socks.

So I did.

This yarn was relatively thick, so I really had to adapt the pattern a bit. I kept the way of making the heel and toe, but made a "normal" rib on top of the socks.

More socks

I had some nice thin sock yarn, multi coloured laying in my pile of unused, nice, cool yarn. So after having knitted the "Geilsk Livstykkesokker" to others, I knitted a pair to myself - even though I really have several thin woolen sock by now :-)

I must admit - these are my favourite. Just perfect fit!

I really like much of the new Danish Knitting design. Socks, in a cooler layout, with a good fit to almost anybody is "Livstykkesokker" from Geilsk.

I had 140 grams of red and black Kauni yarn bought in Silkeborg this summer. And I know how warn and firm that yarn is, perfect for socks, I think. i like the colour mix in this yarn, and look forward to presenting this pair for a special young lady in the family.

So the first sock is done, and almost done with the second sock.

Baby socks

Finishing off my own socks there were some leftover yarn, and the quality is so nice I did not want to trow it away.

As I have a niece expecting a baby in the fall, I thought that these colours could fit a little boy or girl. Well they were quick to make, just 40 stiches around.

Warm socks in thin wool

One day waiting in the airport in Trondheim, I came across a small package with bamboo knitting needles and yarn enough for a pair of socks. Looking at the colours - I decided that this is the kind of socks I will need for my summer vacation in Denmark. Long evenings outdoors can be a bit cold. But these socks are thin enough to be comfortable to wear.

Girlie warm wollen socks for Sofie

Sofie has grown a lot lately. Suddenly most of her socks and shoes are to small - included warm wollen socks. So I knitted this pair to fit her long slim foot. I made them shorter on the leg, and ended them with two rows of crotheting to make them more girly. I used Silja sock yarn with multicoloured thread.

Hat and mittens, scarf and socks

Sofie found this yarn in a shop and asked me to knit a set of baby clothes for her new cousin that are due any moment now. She found this yarn childish so it fitted a baby. I liked the colours, and the fact that they were gender neutral.

So we decided on this little hat and a pair of gloves. The we expanded the set with a scarf and a pair of socks. She looks forward to see the outfit on the baby.
